Benefits of Newspaper Reading

First of all we should know the meaning of newspaper. Word “NEWS “comes from North, West, East and South and the publication which brings information from all four directions is known as Newspaper.

Newspaper has now become a part of our lives. If we do not get the newspaper early in the morning we feel irritated or anxious to know what would be the news today. We get angry if we do not get the newspaper. It feels like we are missing something as it has become very essential for us now-a-days.

Newspaper reading is a personal interest or hobby but necessary to be read by everyone. We just can not force anyone to read the newspaper but once we get the habit of reading it then we will ourselves start reading the newspaper.

The first part of the newspaper gives us the information of the day-to-day happenings in our city or town.

Then come the pages which tell us about our nation and also include all the happenings in the Lok Sabha or The Parliament. The ‘Nation’ pages bring us news even from the most distant or remote parts of the country.

The ‘World’ Section covers the news from all over the globe. There are various other sections such as Sports telling us about all the information related to sports arena and covers whether it is Football, Hockey or Cricket.

There is also news regarding Entertainment and Business which are also equally important. Advertisements in the newspapers inform us about new products and offers in the market.
One important tip while reading a newspaper is that we should read only the first 2 or 3 paragraphs only as it informs us about the news. This portion is called the ‘lead’ and it is the most important part of a news story. The other paragraphs give us the detailed report of the news.

Another very important section of the Newspaper is the Editorial which has to be read daily and completely. The Editorial is written by the top editors of the newspaper and carries the opinion of the paper about matters of national importance.

When I was around 7 or 8 years old my mother told me to read the newspaper and I angrily read the newspaper but slowly I started gaining interest in newspaper. At that time I read only the headlines but as I grew up I started to read the whole newspaper. This really helped me in my exams as there were various questions regarding current affairs.

It also helped me in participating in debates as I knew everything that had happened recently. One important fact is that the people who do not read newspaper cannot participate in meetings and in debates and therefore struggle in their lives.

People should read newspapers as it also helps people to get awareness regarding many things. In earlier times as there were not so many ways of communicating people used to communicate and spread information through newspapers and speeches only.

So, read newspaper and remain updated always.
